The Student Council members, the Global Innovations teacher, the guidance counselor, and the Learning Coordinator worked together to create a school wide project on Radiant Peace as a part of the Olive Branch Project. Students discussed symbols of forgiveness, how inner peace is essential in being able to radiate peace to others, and techniques to use in order to keep the inner peace alive and radiating throughout our school and in the community. The activities varied by grade level. Activities included mindfulness exercises, yoga, journaling of forgiveness intentions and group discussion. The goal of all activities was to create inner peace in order to send out, or radiate, to others.
After class discussions and activities, students were given the opportunity to create forgiveness ornaments. As a reminder of the power of forgiveness, the ornaments are displayed on the branches of an Olive Tree displayed in the CORE of our building. The symbol is surrounded by meditation cushions where students can retreat for a moment of calm.
At the end of the school year, the ornaments will be recycled into seed starters to allow students to watch something beautiful grow from their forgiveness.
