Cathy Graas is a life-long St. Martha Shamrock! Mrs. Grass is a member of the Class of 1990 and returned to St. Martha to raise her family. A current parishioner, Cathy has two children who have graduated from St. Martha and one daughter currently in school at St. Martha. Cathy worked at the Southeast YMCA before starting Saint Martha’s summer/afterschool care program in 1999. She also started the preschool program in 2003, where she taught for 11 years. Taking some time away from being a lead teacher, she subbed in the school for three years. Most recently, Cathy served as our school librarian before moving back into the classroom as a full-time.
Q & A with Mrs. Graas
Passion:
I love encouraging children to learn.
Philosophy:
Every day is a clean slate to learn and grow.
Favorite part of teaching:
Seeing the children get excited! I love when they restate something they learned. They get excited and you can see the “I got it look”.
Favorite teaching memory:
So many funny things my class members say and do daily. The smiles and “hi!” in the hallway or outside of school. I also remember saying the Rosary with a class by the statue of Mary; it was a meaningful moment.
Favorite thing about St. Martha:
We offer so many actives year round for everyone. Sport events for students and adults, fun parties, picnics, and time to hangout with other families. This is how we get to know one another and become a stronger community!
My hope for my students:
To enjoy school, learn, and create memories.
Fun fact:
I am married with three children. I graduated from U of L, Go CARDS!
